A British world champion has said that Conor Benn has done enough in the sport to warrant walking away from boxing following his loss to Ryan Garcia.
Benn had little to no amateur experience before turning professional and has been in the spotlight ever since, given his family name.
He was moved quickly through the ranks and built up momentum with great matchmaking that saw him beat ageing or former champions like Chris Algieri and Samuel Vargas before failing a drug test and stalling for the best part of two years.
On his return, he earned generational wealth across two fights with Chris Eubank Jr, losing the first and winning the second, before then stepping up to world title level.
It proved to be too much too soon for Benn, who struggled to boil back down to the 147lbs limit after four years at higher weights and was stopped inside two rounds.
Speaking to talkSPORT Boxing, WBO middleweight champion Denzel Bentley was asked if he thought Benn could walk away.
“I can definitely see that. He’s won at life, man, he’s got three beautiful kids at home with his wife. He’s got a lovely house; what else is there left for him to do?
“You either look at it and go into more difficult fights where it could diminish your brand even more, or you just take that, and your health, and say I’ve won at life. He’s still very young; he’s 28, 29, he’s got the world at his feet, he can do whatever he wants.”
Following the fight, Benn posted on social media that the most important thing to him right now is spending time with his wife and children, although he has also previously mooted the idea of a third and deciding fight with Eubank Jr.
