A newly-crowned world champion has criticised Canelo‘s most recent performance.

The 34-year-old from Guadalajara, Mexico defeated former IBF super-middleweight champion William Scull on May 3 to regain the undisputed championship at 168lbs, becoming the first fighter in boxing history to achieve this feat twice within the ‘four belt era’.

Just moments after Canelo had his hand raised on May 3, it was finally revealed that the Mexican superstar would face Terence Crawford in a mega-fight on Friday September 12 at the Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas, in what is undoubtedly the biggest fight in boxing right now.

One fighter who has commented on Canelo’s below-par performance against Scull is recently crowned WBA Regular welterweight champion Rolando ‘Rolly’ Romero, who outclassed Ryan Garcia in their bout at Times Square on May 2.

Speaking to Fight Hub TV, Romero sent a stern message to the Mexican icon, as he admits he hopes Crawford ‘beats him up’ when they clash in September.

“F–k Canelo. I hope Crawford beats the s–t out of him. I’ll tell you like this I mean the weight division thing, you know, but I hope Crawford beats the s–t out of him. What Canelo did on that day was disrespectful to boxing. It was just simply disrespectful to boxing in every way.”

Crawford is bidding to become a five-division world champion against Canelo, and will become the first fighter in male boxing history to achieve undisputed status in several weight classes.

The 37-year-old from Omaha is tasked with moving up two weight divisions however, in what is set to be the toughest test of his glittering career.
