An undefeated world champion has had his say on the upcoming mega-fight between Terence Crawford and Canelo Alvarez.

‘Bud’ Crawford is gearing up to challenge the Mexican superstar for his unified WBC, WBA and WBO super middleweight titles later this year, with an official announcement expected within the next couple of weeks.

The 37-year-old from Omaha, Nebraska is bidding to become a five-weight world champion, but faces his biggest challenge to date against a fighter who has dominated the 168lb division for almost five years.

Canelo captured the undisputed championship in 2021 with a victory over Caleb Plant, making four successful defences against the likes of Gennady Golovkin, Jermell Charlo and Jaime Munguia.

Speaking to talkSPORT, WBC lightweight champion and Crawford training partner Shakur Stevenson gave his full support to ‘Bud’, claiming he will make the showdown against the Mexican icon look ‘easy’.

“Honestly, I’ve been saying this for years now. I’m probably the first one that has been saying this – even before Terence was saying it. I always thought that his [Crawford’s] style versus Canelo, I think he beats Canelo. I’m not saying it’ll be an easy fight, but he can make it a very easy fight.”

‘Bud’ moved up to 154lbs last August as he defeated WBA light middleweight champion Israil Madrimov, albeit in a performance that was slightly underwhelming.

As for Canelo, a solid performance against Edgar Berlanga last September meant he kept a hold of his unified titles, which now sets up a dream-fight between two of the biggest names in boxing that is due to take place in Las Vegas this September.
