Many in the sport would like Tyson Fury to reverse his retirement decision for one last fight, however some rivals believe he has timed his hanging up of the gloves perfectly.

Fury was undefeated in his campaign up until last year, a two-time heavyweight world champion who presented a puzzle nobody could work out. That was until he faced off with Oleksandr Usyk, who won their first fight by split decision to become the division’s latest undisputed champion since Lennox Lewis.

Usyk did the double over Fury when they met six months later. ‘The Gypsy King’ felt he had deserved to win both fights on the cards and, in January, announced his retirement from the sport, ruling out a long-awaited clash with another former Usyk foe in Anthony Joshua.

To commit to the contractual second fight, Usyk had to drop the IBF belt, which was picked up by Daniel Dubois and defended in emphatic fashion when he knocked out Joshua in September.

Speaking to Seconds Out after Fury’s second loss to the Ukrainian, Dubois said the man from Morecambe should say goodbye to the sport and make way for the new generation.

“He should retire in my opinion. He’s done everything. But it’s my time now, I want to be the next man.”

Though Fury himself has said nothing to hint that he will return, many feel it is inevitable that he will step through the ropes once more for the ‘AJ’ clash.

Meanwhile, Dubois looks to be heading towards a rematch with Usyk for undisputed honours after suffering a stoppage loss when they first met back in 2023.
