An unbeaten world champion has set his sights on eclipsing Muhammad Ali and Sugar Ray Robinson by becoming the greatest fighter of all time.
Ali and Robinson are widely considered to be two of the greatest fighters in boxing history, proving their credentials on more than one occasion throughout the course of their respective professional careers.
Known simply as ‘The Greatest’, Ali played a key role in one of the best eras in heavyweight boxing history, capturing a version of the world championship on several occasions during his tenure.
As for Robinson, the 201-fight veteran from Georgia racked up no less than 174 wins during his storied career, becoming a world champion at welterweight and middleweight along the way.
One active fighter in particular that has pledged to surpass the achievements of both Ali and Robinson is two-weight world champion David Benavidez, who has established himself as one of the best fighters on the planet over the last 12 months.
‘The Mexican Monster’ currently holds the WBC light-heavyweight title, making the first defence of his crown against Britain’s Anthony Yarde at the ANB Arena in Riyadh on November 22.
Speaking on the Inside The Ring Show prior to his victory over Yarde, Benavidez revealed that it is his ‘lifelong dream’ to become the greatest fighter of all time.
“I have had one dream since I was three-years-old, and that’s to become the greatest boxer of all time. And that’s exactly what we are going to accomplish. We’re almost there, and we are going to keep going until there is no one left to say anything bad about me.”
Benavidez is now set to make the move up to cruiserweight to challenge unified WBA and WBO world champion Gilberto ‘Zurdo’ Ramirez in May 2026, as he bids to become a three-weight world champion.
