One of Manny Pacquiao‘s former foes is also set to return to the ring.

Pacquiao is scheduled to make an ambitious comeback in his own right, as he returns to action after almost four years away when he challenges Mario Barrios for his WBC welterweight title at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas in July.

It’s a fight that has divided opinion within boxing, due to Pacquiao now being 46-years-old, inactive and having lost his last contest back in August 2021.

That defeat came against Yordenis Ugas, who beat Pacquiao for the WBA welterweight title. The Cuban only competed on two further occasions after that bout.

They both ended in defeat, suffering a 10th round TKO loss to Errol Spence in April 2022, before he was then beaten by unanimous decision by Barrios himself in September 2023.

While it may have been over 18 months since Ugas last stepped through the ropes, the 38-year-old has announced on social media that he also plans to return to the sport in the near future.

“I’ve been training for almost two years. Training is like a lifestyle for me. I want to fight a fourth consecutive champion. I’m excited to get back to fighting. My last two fights, even in defeat, were exciting, and I know a lot of good fans want to see me fight.”

Who or at what level Ugas will return at remains to be seen but, at 38-years-old and without the drawing power of a Pacquiao, he must make waves soon if he wants to achieve his goal.

The loss to Ugas was one of eight defeats that Pacquiao suffered in his illustrious career, which began way back in 1995 and also includes 62 wins and 2 draws ahead of his showdown with Barrios this summer.
