A former world welterweight champion has expressed his concerns ahead of Terence Crawford‘s ‘mega-fight’ with Canelo Alvarez next month.

The pound-for-pound stars are set to do battle for the undisputed world super-middleweight championship on Saturday September 13 at the Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas, Nevada.

‘Bud’ Crawford will make the move up to 168lbs for the first time ahead of his showdown with the Mexican icon, having spent the majority of his glittering professional career campaigning at welterweight where he became undisputed champion at 147lbs.

As for Canelo, the 35-year-old from Guadalajara has proved to be a dominant force at super-middleweight since making the move up from 160lbs back in 2018, defeating the likes of Jermell Charlo, Callum Smith and Gennady Golovkin along the way.

One man who knows what it is like to face Crawford is two-time welterweight champion Shawn Porter, who was stopped by ‘Bud’ in the 10th round of their clash in November 2021.

Speaking to Fight Hub TV, Porter shared his thoughts on Crawford’s chances of defeating Canelo next month, where he expresses his concerns towards the American’s ability of taking a punch from the Mexican.

“I am concerned with him absorbing a Canelo punch, especially through the course of 12 rounds. I do know this about Canelo. He’s going to slow down.”

Whilst he is faced with what has been described by many as the toughest test of his professional career, ‘Bud’ Crawford could be on the verge of writing his name into the boxing history books as victory over Canelo would see him become the first male fighter in boxing history to win an undisputed championship in three weight classes, having already accomplished this feat at super-lightweight and welterweight.
