Terence Crawford looks set to face Mexican icon Canelo Alvarez in a mega-fight later this year.
The 37-year-old from Omaha, Nebraska has enjoyed incredible success over the last few years, but faces his biggest challenge yet when he steps up two weight divisions to challenge the unified WBC, WBA and WBO super middleweight champion.
‘Bud’ Crawford’s most recent triumph came last August when he became a four-division world champion, outpointing WBA light middleweight champion Israil Madrimov in Los Angeles. It was the two-weight undisputed champion’s 41st successive career victory, as he targets making even more history for himself when he faces the 34-year-old from Guadalajara.
One man who is backing ‘Bud’ to do the business is reigning WBC lightweight belt holder and three-weight champion Shakur Stevenson, who recently spoke admirably of the pound-for-pound superstar.
Speaking to FightHype.com, Stevenson predicted a comprehensive win for Crawford, claiming the 37-year-old will ‘outbox’ Canelo and make it an ‘easy night’ for himself.
“I think that ‘Bud’ outboxes him, I think he gonna use his legs, keep Canelo on the outside and make it an easy night.”
The highly anticipated showdown between ‘Bud’ and Canelo is expected to take place in September with the Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas emerging as the venue of choice. Riyadh Season’s Turki Alalshikh has been leading the negotiations between both fighters, with a deal said to be agreed and signed by both.
Canelo was said to be initially reluctant in going ahead with a bout against Crawford, but appears to have now made a u-turn on this decision as he prepares to make the sixth defence of his super middleweight crown.
