A former world welterweight champion has summed up Terence Crawford‘s chances of stopping Canelo Alvarez when they clash next month.

The pound-for-pound superstars are just two weeks away from doing battle for the undisputed super-middleweight championship at the Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas, Nevada on Saturday September 13.

‘Bud’ Crawford will attempt to become a five-division world champion in the process, as he makes his first appearance at super-middleweight having initially beginning his career at lightweight and rising through the divisions.

Canelo made the move up to 168lbs back in 2018 and since then has gone on to become the undisputed champion on two occasions, and is yet to ever taste defeat in the super-middleweight division.

One fighter that has fallen victim to Crawford’s outstanding ability and punching power is former WBO world welterweight champion Jeff Horn, who was stopped in the ninth round of his 2018 showdown with the unbeaten American.

Speaking to Fight Hub TV, Horn summed up Crawford’s chances of defeating Canelo via stoppage when they lock horns next month, saying ‘it’s definitely possible’.

“Possibly, yeah sure. He’s got super accurate shots and if he’s able to weather the storm early from Canelo, if that’s what Canelo’s strategy is, that could tire him out and that could allow a window for Terence Crawford to start seeing if he’s able to pick the holes and land the good shots, he could certainly tire Canelo out and stop him later in the fight, it’s definitely possible.”

Whilst he is tasked with what could well be the toughest test of his career when he clashes with Canelo, victory for ‘Bud’ could see the 37-year-old from Omaha become the first male fighter in the history of the sport to capture an undisputed world championship in three weight classes.

Ahead of their fight, Canelo has drafted in undefeated former unified welterweight world champion Jaron Ennis for sparring, and Crawford has revealed his thoughts on that decision.
