Charles Martin returns to the boxing ring after almost 18 months out and has one British target in mind for the future.

Martin is a former IBF champion, although he lost that title in his first defence when he was knocked out in quick fashion by Anthony Joshua in 2016, when the Brit won his maiden belt.

Martin took a year out following that loss and since then has fought 10 times, beating the likes of Devin Vargas and Gerald Washington, but losing to fighters such as Luis Ortiz – although he was just was a punch away from an early stoppage in that fight.

He also showed the vulnerabilities of the then unbeaten and much hyped Jared Anderson before losing on the cards after 10 rounds.

Speaking to Sky Sports, Martin said he remains a man on a mission and is targeting one fight with a rising British star.

“I definitely have unfinished business in boxing. I really wanted to fight Moses. First we were going to do it in UK, then I heard they wanted to bring Moses to the US. For whatever reason, it didn’t happen. I feel like I am in a great spot right now with Zuffa and [its founder and CEO] Dana White.”

Martin is next out this evening against Efe Ajagba in the Zuffa Boxing main event at the Meta Apex in Las Vegas.

Should he come through that, he could well be a viable opponent for Itauma, who takes on former Joshua and Dillian Whyte victim Jermaine Franklin in March.
