Julio Martinez,14-1-(10), stunned the previously unbeaten Andrew Selby,11-1-(6), by securing a fifth-round knockout win in a WBC flyweight eliminator at the fairgrounds in Metepec, Mexico state in Mexico on Saturday night.
Selby was ahead on the judges’ scorecards before getting caught with a hook to the body after 0.57 of the fifth round.
Selby was cut on the left eye In the third round after a clash of heads for which Martinez was deducted a point.
Martinez will now challenge WBC champ Charlie Edwards, who retained his title for the first time in London, England against Angel Moreno on the same night.
