Jermell Charlo has had his say on Terence Crawford‘s outstanding performance against Canelo Alvarez last month.

‘Bud’ Crawford put on an impressive display against the Mexican icon on September 13 to capture the undisputed super-middleweight championship at a sold out Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas, Nevada.

All three of the judges at ringside scored the bout unanimously in favour of the unbeaten American, who became the first male fighter in the history of the sport to win an undisputed championship in three separate weight classes.

Whilst Canelo has now suffered three defeats during what has been an impressive professional career to date, the 35-year-old from Guadalajara has defeated a number of highly-rated fighters in the last few years including former undisputed super-welterweight champion Charlo.

Speaking on a social media live stream, Charlo praised his countryman for putting on such an outstanding performance against Canelo, as he claims that he could not replicate what Crawford did against the Mexican because he ignored important advice from his coaches.

“I believe Crawford did absolutely everything that he studied and he did it right. I didn’t listen, I didn’t listen to no coaches, both of my coaches was beefing with each other.”

Charlo stepped up to 168lbs to challenge Canelo for the undisputed championship back in September of 2023, but ultimately fell short on the night as he was beaten via unanimous decision at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.

‘Iron Man’ has been inactive since suffering the first defeat of his career to the Mexican superstar, although he is expected to make his long-awaited return to the ring at some point in 2026.
