Jermell Charlo Delivers Honest Verdict On Canelo vs Terence Crawford: “It’s As Simple As That”

Jermell Charlo has shared his final thoughts on the impending clash between former rival Canelo Alvarez and Terence Crawford.

Mexican superstar Canelo is just four days away from defending his undisputed super-middleweight championship against ‘Bud’ Crawford at the Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas on Saturday night.

Crawford made his last ring appearance in August of 2024 when he dethroned WBA super-welterweight champion Israil Madrimov but he is faced with arguably the toughest test of his career this weekend when he makes the move up in two weight classes to face Canelo.

One man that has shared the ring with Canelo in recent years is former undisputed light-middleweight champion Charlo, who fell short in his attempt at defeating the Mexican icon when he faced him in Las Vegas back in September 2023.

Speaking on an Instagram live stream, Charlo says that his fellow countryman Crawford should ‘have an option’ to win the fight if everything goes to plan for the 37-year-old.

“If Crawford do what he’s supposed to do, he got an option. If he don’t, he don’t beat Canelo, simple as that.”

Having spent the majority of his professional career campaigning at welterweight, ‘Bud’ is on the verge of making boxing history against Canelo as he sets his sights on becoming the first male fighter in the sport’s history to win an undisputed championship in three separate divisions.

As for Canelo, the 35-year-old from Guadalajara made the move up from 160lbs back in 2018 and since then he has reigned as the undisputed champion on two occasions, the latest of those beginning when he defeated William Scull back in May.
