Canelo Alvarez will meet Terence Crawford in September.

It sees Crawford step up to super-middleweight for the bout, moving up two divisions from super-welterweight.

‘Bud’ has spent the majority of his career at 147lbs and below, fighting just once at 154lbs last August when he defeated Israil Madrimov to win the WBA super-welterweight title, while Canelo has fought as high as 175lbs during his career.

It has led to some boxing fans to have concerns that Canelo may prove to be too big for Crawford, and one man who has experienced the Mexican superstar’s power first hand has a warning.

Jermell Charlo fought Alvarez in September 2023, and was also stepping up two weight divisions having been the undisputed super-welterweight champion prior to the bout.

It proved to be a dominant win for Canelo, winning nearly every round and dropping Charlo in a one-sided unanimous decision victory.

Speaking after the fight, Charlo revealed just how hard Alvarez hits, serving as a potential warning for Crawford.

“Canelo’s a motherf***ing beast. Maybe I felt that more because it was my first time at this weight division.

“I wish I could’ve gained a little bit more weight, but I can’t control my body like that. That was my true first time feeling a woozy shot.”

Crawford will find out in September just whether he can handle the power of Canelo, in a bout that could be for undisputed status, if WBC, WBA and WBO champion Alvarez can first defeat IBF champion William Scull in May.
