Former WBC world middleweight champion Julio Cesar Chavez Jr has summed up the punching power of Jake Paul ahead of his controversial showdown with Anthony Joshua.
Mexico’s Chavez suffered the seventh defeat of his professional career when he faced ‘The Problem Child’ at the Honda Center in Anaheim back in June.
Paul is now just days away from clashing with two-time world heavyweight champion Joshua, with their controversial meeting set to take place at the Kaseya Center in Miami on December 19.
‘AJ’ was last in action back in September 2024 when he suffered a shock fifth round stoppage defeat to former IBF world heavyweight champion Daniel Dubois at Wembley Stadium.
‘The Problem Child’ was originally scheduled to face WBA lightweight champion Gervonta Davis on November 14, but their exhibition clash was scrapped after ‘Tank’ found himself at the centre of a civil lawsuit regarding domestic allegations.
Speaking to Fight Hype just moments after his June meeting with Paul, Chavez spoke fondly of Paul’s punching power, as he claims the 28-year-old was a ‘good puncher’.
“He has a good punch, good puncher. He’s good physically. No excuse, he won more rounds, I waited too much.”
Paul has racked up seven stoppage victories since making his professional debut back in 2020, defeating the likes of Tyron Woodley and Ben Askren inside the scheduled distance.
Whilst there have been concerns about Joshua’s confidence going into his clash with Paul, the 36-year-old has already vowed to break the American’s face as he looks to make one final push towards becoming a world heavyweight champion for the third time.
