Jake Paul and Julio Cesar Chavez Jr are just days away from facing off inside the ropes.

The fight sees the return of Paul after a controversial eight-rounder with 58-year-old Mike Tyson late last year. Though Chavez Jr is 39 and has not retired, many in the sport feel Paul’s shrewd matchmaking is once again at play given the Mexican has been largely inactive at a good level and is known for inconsistent training.

There have been many points in a 62-fight career that the former middleweight world champion may have considered hanging up the gloves, but he has always returned.

Speaking on a DAZN face off, Chavez, who has been defeated six times in the past, said that this time he will retire if he loses.

“Yes, man. If I lose I won’t fight again. Imagine if I lose to Jake Paul? It’s gonna be embarrassing.”

Paul – who has lost just once to Tommy Fury – then responded, as convinced as ever that his hand will be raised.

“Well, start planning it out, buddy. I’m gonna have my team get the jersey, we’ll hang it up in the arena. It’ll be nice. We can get you a little Mexican band to play a nice song for you and send you off to hiding.”

The fight takes place at the Honda Center, Anaheim this weekend, main event to an undercard that features Gilberto Ramirez defending his WBO and WBA cruiserweight belts against Yuniel Dorticos. The champion has said he would be open to giving Paul a shot in the future.
