Julio Cesar Chavez Jr is just weeks away from his intriguing match-up with the controversial Jake Paul.
The 39-year-old from Culiacan, Mexico has had a rollercoaster professional career, which began way back in 2003.
He captured the WBC world middleweight title back in 2011 with victory over Sebastian Zbik, going on to make several successful defences of his crown before he was dethroned by Sergio Martinez one year later.
Since losing his title over 10 years ago, Chavez Jr appears to have found it difficult to move back into world title contention, especially after suffering a number of defeats against the likes of Canelo Alvarez, Daniel Jacobs and MMA legend Anderson Silva.
As he prepares to face Paul in Anaheim next month, Chavez Jr revealed in an interview with TMZ Sports that he has just one concern going into the cruiserweight showdown against the social media sensational.
“You know, I’m worried about my condition and being 100% at the fight. Of course I know that he’s a fighter, he’s big, so I want to prepare myself to be the best this June 28, that’s it.”
Chavez Jr has the opportunity to derail Paul’s prospects of becoming a legitimate world champion in the near future, and become just the second fighter to defeat the 28-year-old from Cleveland, who was beaten for the first time by Tommy Fury in February 2023.
Paul is reportedly in discussions for a shock bout against WBA lightweight champion Gervonta Davis, with the pair said to be negotiating a catchweight bout that could take place before the end of 2025.
