Julio Cesar Chavez Sr is often credited with being one of the greatest fighters to have ever laced up a pair of boxing gloves.
The Mexican legend had a highly decorated professional career, winning multiple world titles across several weight classes between 1980 and 2005, having claimed world honours at super feahterweight, lightweight and light welterweight.
He fought on no less than 115 occasions along the way, producing legacy-defining victories over the likes of Greg Haugen, Hector Camacho and Edwin Rosario amongst many others.
Chavez suffered his fair share of defeats however, with the sixth of his career coming in his 115th and final bout in September 2005, a shock fifth round stoppage defeat to America’s Grover Wiley, leading him to hang up the gloves with 107 wins, 86 of those wins by knockout.
Speaking to The Ring Magazine, Chavez spoke fondly of former pound-for-pound superstar Oscar De La Hoya, as he claims the six-weight world champion possessed the best jab of all his opponents.

Chavez and De La Hoya crossed paths on two occasions during their respective careers, with ‘The Golden Boy’ stopping the Mexican great on both occasions in 1996 and 1998 respectively.
De La Hoya had an exceptional professional career of his own, winning world titles in six divisions whilst defeating the likes of Hector Camacho, Pernell Whitaker and Fernando Vargas prior to his retirement from the sport in 2009, as he finished with a record of 39 wins from his 45 fights.
