Veteran heavyweight Derek Chisora has been targeted for a showdown with a former long-reigning world champion.
The 41-year-old from London is in the process of negotiating the 50th and what could well be the final bout of his professional career which began with a second round stoppage win over István Kecskés back in February of 2007.
‘Del Boy’ has proved to be a durable opponent throughout the course of his tenure, sharing the ring with the likes of Vitali Klitschko, David Haye, Joseph Parker and Tyson Fury along the way.
Chisora has also crossed paths with two-time undisputed heavyweight champion Oleksandr Usyk, who has actually revealed the Brit to be his toughest opponent at heavyweight in a surprising admission.
As he edges closer to finalising his next outing, Chisora has been heavily linked with a showdown against former WBC heavyweight champion Deontay Wilder.
Speaking on The Cigar Talk podcast, Wilder welcomed a potential match-up with Chisora as he claims a showdown with the Brit would be a ‘real fight’.
“That’s real. That could be a real fight. I was like “You know what, let him be the warm up to the Usyk fight”, I love that because Derek, if you know Derek and you’re a fan of Derek, you know he’s not a pushover.
“You’re not gonna bully him, you feel me? The mentality that he has, he has an alpha male mentality, and when you go up against another alpha male, it’s a problem.”
It has been suggested that ‘The Bronze Bomber’ is in line to face unified heavyweight champion Usyk in the first half of 2026, although an official announcement on this surprising match-up is yet to be made.
