Derek Chisora has long said he has just one fight left.
The British heavyweight veteran has always fought hard across a long career, which is how he got his ‘War’ mantra. He has enjoyed something of an Indian summer of late, with unanimous decision wins over Otto Wallin, Joe Joyce and Gerald Washington in his last three fights.
Before that he fought the likes of Tyson Fury three times, Dillian Whyte twice and other former champions such as Vitali Klitschko and David Haye.
He has never been a full world champion himself, and has currently had 49 fights. Right now, he is the mandatory challenger for the IBF heavyweight title currently held by Daniel Dubois.
However, ‘DDD’ is to fight Oleksandr Usyk next in an undisputed showdown in July – a fight which Chisora recently said he will be keen to watch.
Chisora always aimed to bow out after 50 contests but could well be tempted to fight on if a world title shot came up sometime soon.
In the meantime, he has been called out by one of the division’s form men, in Fabio Wardley, who recently shared his interest in a fight with ‘Del Boy’ on X.
“WAR vs WAR… gimme a call.”
Wardley fought this past weekend and rescued what was looking like a certain points loss to Australian fighter Justis Huni with an impressive one-punch KO in the 10th round.
The win took the Ipswich fighter’s record to 19-0-1 so he remains unbeaten as he continues his quest to get into world title contention.
