Derek Chisora has always been as much of an entertainer outside of the ring as inside it.
He has fought a real who’s who of the heavyweight division since his debut in 2007, including three fights with Tyson Fury, a pair with Joseph Parker and Dillian Whyte, and grudge matches with David Haye and Vitali Klitschko. He has beaten the likes of Kubrat Pulev and Gerald Washington in recent times.
This weekend he takes on Joe Joyce in a fight both men need to win if they have any hopes of being in big fights going forward. It is Chisora’s 48th bout and he’s determined to make it to 50, while Joyce is rebuilding after devastating back-to-back losses to Zhilei Zhang last year. Since then he has had one straightforward victory over Kash Ali.
Speaking at the press conference for TNT Sports Boxing, Chisora used those defeats to lay into Joyce.
“You let a Chinese guy beat you. There’s nothing else to say, bro. Tell me how many heavyweight champions in China. None. You let a Chinese guy whoop your ass. Embarrassment. You kissed the canvas with that guy. You could not find your legs.”
Joyce got his right to reply.
“He would whoop your ass. I’m not going to worry about you. I’m going to knock your ass out.”
Joyce and Chisora come together at The O2 in London when the previously unstoppable ‘Juggernaut’ will be confronted by the all action ‘War’ Chisora.
