Derek Chisora has changed his view on the upcoming heavyweight fight between Dillian Whyte and Moses Itauma this weekend.
37-year-old former world title challenger Whyte needs a big result against the 20-year-old heavyweight prospect Itauma. They are at opposite ends of their careers, with ‘The Body Snatcher’ somewhat out of the pictur,e having missed out on a rematch with Anthony Joshua in 2023 after he tested positive for a banned substance. He has been cleared of any wrong doing but has fought just a couple of time since after previously beating the likes of Alexandr Povetkin, Joseph Parker and Chisora.
Itauma is being tipped for the top by the likes of Fury and Oleksandr Usyk and has beaten his last three opponents, including the well travelled likes of Demsey McKean and Mariusz Wach, inside the first couple of rounds.
Speaking to talkSPORT, Chisora originally said there was ‘no light at the end of the tunnel’ for Whyte in this match-up and it was ‘not the fight’ to make.
“I even phoned Dillian and said I don’t know why you’re talking this fight, this kid is on fire right now. He’s getting better and better. He’s not going backwards, he’s going forward … He’s 20? Jesus Christ. Someone needs to call the police and get them done for attempted murder for making that fight happen.
“That is not the fight to make right now. Moses is on fire, so we need to decide who goes to prison when Dillian gets battered badly. There’s no light at the end of that tunnel.”
However, in a more recent interview with iFL TV, Chisora now gives Whyte a fair chance and said he ‘wouldn’t be surprised’ if his former foe came out victorious.
“I phoned Moses and said please, take it easy. But I won’t be surprised if Dillian wins that fight you know.”
Whyte responded to ‘Del Boy’ saying he thinks he has a tough night ahead against Itauma by claiming that Chisora himself would never have the courage to fight another young rising star.
