Heavyweight veteran Derek Chisora has shared the ring with many greats of his era including Tyson Fury and Oleksandr Usyk.
Chisora is weeks away from his 49th professional contest. It comes against former Fury and Anthony Joshua victim Otto Wallin at Co-Op Live in Manchester on 8 February and he has shared his hopes of having one more after that make it to 50 contests.
Along the way he has fought Fury three times, most recently in December 2022 when he lost via stoppage. Before that the two fought in 2015 when he was again stopped, and in 2011 when he lost via unanimous decision. He has also fought the big hitting likes of Vitali Klitshcko and Dillian Whyte and lost to both.
In 2020, he welcomed the former undisputed cruiserweight champion turned undisputed heavyweight ruler Uysk up to the banner division and gave him a tough contest over 12 rounds but ultimately lost on points.
Speaking to talkSPORT Boxing, he was asked to compare the punches of both Fury, who has won 24 of his 37 contests by stoppage, and Usyk who has 14 KO wins from 23, and said there was little difference.
“Both men don’t have power.”
It was in fact Usyk who came closest to a knockout of Fury in the first of the two fights these men shared in 2024. All 24 rounds were tight, close and technical affairs which rather backed up what Chisora said ahead of the first bell. Fury ended up losing both and is now left deciding on whether or not to return for a blockbuster contest with Anthony Joshua.
