Derek Chisora has a vested interest in the outcome of the fight between Daniel Dubois and Oleksandr Usyk.
‘Del Boy’ has had 49 fights across a long and entertaining career. He has faced the likes of Tyson Fury three times, Dillian White and Joseph Parker, and his last bout was a victory against Otto Wallin on points back in February. The Londoner has long said he wanted to bow out after 50 bouts, ideally with a final fight in Saudi Arabia.
His last fight in Manchester with former Anthony Joshua and Fury victim Wallin was an IBF eliminator, which means Chisora is now the mandatory for the world title currently held by Dubois.
He will be defending it against Usyk on July 19 at Wembley Stadium while also attempting to claim the WBO, WBC and WBA belts held by the Ukrainian great. The pair have already fought once back in August 2023 when Usyk won by 9th round knockout, but not before a scare from a shot which had him on the canvas before controversially being ruled low.
Whoever comes out on top in the rematch will be the undisputed champion and will have to deal with not only Chisora, but also the WBO mandatory Parker.
Speaking to iFL TV, Chisora, who has already fought Usyk up at heavyweight and lost on points back in 2020, was asked about the upcoming undisputed showdown and wishes Dubois well against a ‘very on point’ Usyk.
“I want to sit down and watch that. Shout out to Daniel, good luck [but] he’s fighting a guy who’s very on point.”
A world title fight for Chisora in his final contest could be a fitting end for a man who has given so much to the sport.
