Derek Chisora claims he knows who Daniel Dubois will be taking on when he returns to the ring.
Dubois’ great momentum was rather stalled this past weekend. The Brit had been on a superb run that had seen him transform his fortunes and become the IBF world champion.
It started with a KO victory over Jarrell Miller in December 2023 after coming through some adversity in the early rounds. A similar thing transpired when he fought Fillip Hrgovic in June 2024 – he was under plenty of pressure early on, only to come through and stop the highly rated contender due to cuts.
After that fight ‘DDD’ was elevated to IBF world champion and defended his belt against Anthony Joshua back in September when he won by KO in the 5th round.
He was due to defend the title again last weekend against Joseph Parker but fell ill with a virus and was pulled from the card. Parker instead knocked out Martin Bakole inside two rounds.
Speaking to IFL TV, Chisora revealed that he has heard Dubois will be fighting a former opponent when he is back to full health.
“Dubois is fighting Usyk. That’s what’s happening now. Bro, what everybody has to understand now. The matchmakers don’t sort the fight any more. The British Boxing Board of Control have nothing to say any more. It’s the guy who writes the cheque.”
Usyk is the unified champion, so this would be a historic second undisputed fight for him after beating Tyson Fury for all four belts last year but being forced to vacate the IBF before Dubois picked it up. The Ukrainian beat Dubois via KO back in the summer 2023.
It looks unlikely that the Parker bout, a voluntary defence for Dubois, will be rescheduled.
