Derek Chisora is already pulling back on his initial promise that he would be out of the game after 50 fights.
The much-loved London-based heavyweight has long since said he will retire once he gets to half a century of contests and has been taking his time picking a final opponent. After being linked with Dillian Whyte, Zhilei Zhang and Fabio Wardley, Chisora is now reportedly finalising a deal with Deontay Wilder.
Speaking to talkSPORT Boxing, Chisora admitted he could be tempted into another fight after his 50th should he beat ‘The Bronze Bomber.’
“We might end up fighting Oleksandr Usyk, we never know. Imagine anything in life, life is a beautiful thing and things happen for beautiful reasons. Listen, if the fight with Deontay happens and the winner will fight Usyk, that will be amazing.”
‘Del Boy’ has of course already shared the ring with Usyk back in 2022. That was Usyk’s second fight at heavyweight after he beat Chazz Witherspoon, and many have said it was one of his hardest nights up in the banner division because of Chisora’s ‘War’ spirit, relentless work ethic and front-foot, come-forward style.
Usyk was also linked with Wilder, having called him out to round off this era of heavyweights and beat all the top names. Should Chisora and Wilder sign on the dotted line, it is currently unclear where the Ukrainian great will go next.
