Derek Chisora has changed his mind about what will happen when Moses Itauma fights Dillian Whyte.
Whyte is looking to reignite his career after a layoff following a failed doping test that forced him out of a 2023 rematch with Anthony Joshua. After stating he was cleared of any wrongdoing by UK Anti-Doping, the 37-year-old former world title challenger is aiming for one last shot at the top, having previously fought top names Tyson Fury, Joseph Parker and Chisora himself.
On the opposite trajectory is 20-year-old heavyweight prospect Itauma. Undefeated in 12 fights, with 10 wins by stoppage, including early finishes of Demsey McKean and Mariusz Wach, he’s quickly become a star and has been tipped for the top by Fury and Oleksandr Usyk.
Speaking to iFL TV, Chisora explained that he now sees it as a tough night for both men and he could see either winning it.
“First of all we had people saying he’s going to die in the ring, get killed in the ring, he’s gunna f**king die. I said Moses, please, take it easy. But I won’t be surprised if Dillian wins that fight you know.”
“I even phoned Dillian and said I don’t know why you’re talking this fight, this kid is on fire right now. He’s getting better and better. He’s not going backwards, he’s going forward … He’s 20? Jesus Christ. Someone needs to call the police and get them done for attempted murder for making that fight happen.
“That is not the fight to make right now. Moses is on fire, so we need to decide who goes to prison when Dillian gets battered badly. There’s no light at the end of that tunnel.”
A win for either Whyte or Itauma puts them right into world title contention with Chisora himself, the IBF mandatory and currently a veteran of 49 fights, looking for one final opponent to dance with ahead of bowing out of the sport for good.
