Oleksandr Usyk has cemented himself as the best heavyweight of a generation.
On his way to that status he has beaten Anthony Joshua and Tyson Fury twice as well as stopping Daniel Dubois. His first real test in the division was a game Derek Chisora, who put pressure on the Ukrainian from the opening bell but dwindled in energy as the rounds progressed.
As such, Chisora knows unified champion Usyk and his skillset well. With his second fight with Fury now settled, many are discussing the potential of a Dubois rematch given the young Brit now holds the IBF belt and would provide a chance for Usyk to become twice undisputed in the division.
Dubois, since the ninth round stoppage loss in Poland, has grown in confidence with statement wins over Jarrell Miller, Filip Hrgovic and, most significantly, a five-round blowout of Joshua at Wembley Stadium.
It was after that performance Chisora was asked if ‘DDD’ can now win a rematch. He told Mail Sport Boxing yes.
“The way Daniel’s going right now, yeah, why not?”
Dubois has sights set on the rematch and even called it on despite having a title defence booked on February 22 against former champion Joseph Parker. Should he come through he is expected to aggressively pursue Usyk.
Many in the sport feel the Ukrainian should consider retirement having ‘completed’ boxing after gaining undisputed status at both cruiserweight and heavyweight against this generation’s top talent.
