Derek Chisora Asked If He Fears Deontay Wilder’s Power

Derek Chisora‘s epic showdown with Deontay Wilder is just weeks away.

‘Del Boy’ has been biding his time to pick what he has long said will be his 50th and final opponent. The British heavyweight has had a storied career that started all the way back in 2007.

Since then, he has had 49 contests and has always stuck to his own ‘War’ mantra. There have been trilogies with Tyson Fury, two entertaining fights with Dillian Whyte and back-to-back losses to Joseph Parker.

However, Chisora also pushed Oleksandr Usyk hard when he welcomed him to the heavyweight division in 2020 and in his last three fights has found some form with wins over Otto Wallin, Gerald Washington and Joe Joyce.

In April he has one of his hardest tests of all when he takes on American former WBC world champion Wilder.

Speaking to Froch on Fighting, Chisora was asked if he feared ‘The Bronze Bomber’s famous punching power.

“Yes, mate, I’m f***ing petrified. The guy can bang. Mate, I’m taking him seriously, 100%. The guy can bang. I don’t want to get banged out in front of the O2 Arena. Mate, I don’t wanna get banged.”

Wilder has also had 49 fights and has won 44 of them, 43 by way of stoppage. His losses came at the hands of Tyson Fury twice in their trilogy, while he was also beaten on points by Parker and stopped by Zhilei Zhang so he needs a win here to rescue any hopes of fighting on at the top level.
