Derek Chisora Names Who He Wants Next If He Beats Murat Gassiev: “I Would Love It”

Derek Chisora has U-turned once again on retirement and is set to fight at the end of the year, and then again after that if he gets his way.

Del Boy has been a long servant to British boxing. He has been a professional for 19 years, turning over in 2007, and since then has had 50 fights, won 36 and lost 14.

Last time out he took on former American world champion and huge puncher Deontay Wilder in April and always promised his 50th would be his last. He survived the 12 rounds but took a split decision loss and has now decided to return to the ring.

At a press conference in Istanbul, he announced he will be fighting Murat Gassiev on an IBA show in December.

Speaking to Second Out, he has set his sights further ahead than that and admits that if he gets the win against the WBA Regular champion, he would love a rematch with ‘The Bronze Bomber.’

“I would love after winning this to fight Deontay Wilder. I would love to fight Deontay Wilder.”

Wilder’s fight with Chisora was his first in almost a year, and only his third in three years after losing to Joseph Parker and Zhilei Zhang.

He is now 40 himself and a veteran of 50 contests of his own and has been linked to fights with both British heavyweight Johnny Fisher, but also former two-time undisputed ruler Oleksandr Usyk, who has long spoken of his desire to fight the American. That contest could take place in early 2027, leaving Chisora out of the picture.
