Derek Chisora is a legend of the heavyweight division but now the end is in sight for the British veteran.
Chisora has been a much-loved part of the banner division for more than a decade. He has always been a hugely entertaining character outside the ring and has always lived up to his ‘War’ mantra inside it.
The Brit has fought many of the biggest names in the sport, including a trilogy with Tyson Fury which proved to be bruising and unsuccessful.
He has shared two dramatic fights with Dillian Whyte, the first being a close points loss, and the second ended up with him flat out on the canvas.
Chisora has also fought David Haye and welcomed the great Oleksandr Usyk up to heavyweight, and had two thrillers with Joseph Parker. His current record is 48 fights and 35 wins with 23 of them coming by way of knockout.
He has long stated his desire to get to 50 fights and, in an interview with Boxing News, has now named UFC star and boxing novice Francis Ngannou as the man he would like to face in his final contest.
“Ngannou in Africa. That’s what I whispered to [promoter Frank Warren] so we will work on that.”
Ngannou is best known for pushing Fury hard but losing on points, then being flattened inside two rounds by Anthony Joshua.
Most recently ‘Del Boy’ has beaten Joe Joyce and Gerald Washington and next up in February is a fight with Otto Wallin, who is best known for being stopped by Joshua but pushing Fury hard over 12 rounds. Regardless of the outcome of that one, Chisora will likely get that 50th fight he has long targeted.
