Veteran British heavyweight Derek Chisora has weighed in on the controversial ending to Fabio Wardley‘s shock victory over Joseph Parker.

Ipswich hero Wardley defied the odds once again at the O2 Arena in London on Saturday night when he stopped former world champion Parker, capturing the WBO interim heavyweight title in the process.

Referee Howard Foster called a halt to the bruising heavyweight clash in the 11th round, although many viewers have argued that Parker should have been allowed to continue, despite being on the receiving end of a barrage of shots from Wardley.

Speaking to Boxing Social just moments after the controversial ending, fellow heavyweight contender Chisora shared his verdict on the referee’s decision to call an end to proceedings when he did.

“Man the stoppage was the right way, because it takes a second for a man to die and it takes a second, do you understand? So what the ref did there was amazing bro, I admire what the ref did, he left Joseph Parker.

“Joseph Parker didn’t chuck anything, he chucked a shot afterwards and he missed it, but you know, it’s one of those things.”

With that career-best victory over Parker, Wardley appears to have secured himself a dream shot at the reigning undisputed heavyweight champion Oleksandr Usyk next.

Usyk became the undisputed champion yet again back in July when he stopped Daniel Dubois in the fifth round of their historic showdown at Wembley Stadium, extending his unblemished record to 24-0 and effectively cementing himself as the greatest heavyweight of his era.
