Derek Chisora Cancels Talks With One Heavyweight As New Frontrunner For Next Fight Emerges

Derek Chisora has always said he would bow out after his 50th fight.

The popular London heavyweight has had 49 bouts so far, his most recent coming back in February when he beat Otto Wallin on points.

He has also beaten the likes of Joe Joyce, Gerald Washington and Kubrat Pulev in what has always been a hugely entertaining career that has lived up to his own ‘War’ mantra.

It appeared that his next outing in December was going to come against controversial American heavyweight Jarrell Miller, after reports that the pair were on the brink of finalising a deal for the bout.

Promoter Frank Warren has now ruled out that match-up, paving the way for Chisora to potentially take on one of his former foes in a trilogy bout.

That is because two of his past fights have come against Dillian Whyte, and speaking to iFL TV, Whyte’s manager, Michael Ofo, suggested they are keen to make the third with ‘Del Boy.’

“I think we’ve all seen the rumours, so I can confirm the rumours are true cause they’re out there, but in terms of that fight happening, it’s always a fight we’ve talked about, it’s always a fight we’ve pushed for, it’s always a fight floating around. If it happens and it makes sense, then of course Dillian will fight Derek Chisora. No one is scared of Derek Chisora.

“He wouldn’t mind beating him up again, and he welcomes it. We’ve been screaming for this fight for the last two years. Ask them how many times I’ve contacted them behind closed doors and said Let’s make this fight. It’s not a fight we would avoid. If the fight does happen, it’s going to be the same outcome: Dillian is going to stop him.”

The first fight with Whyte was a points loss for Chisora back in 2016, and the second saw him get stopped in the 11th round back in 2018. Last time out, Whyte himself was stopped inside two minutes by young heavyweight star Moses Itauma.
