Derek Chisora has a suggestion for Fabio Wardley about what he should do next instead of challenging Oleksandr Usyk.
Wardley has announced himself at the top table of the heavyweight division with his recent victory over Joseph Parker. Parker is a former world champion who was in a superb run having beaten Zhilei Zhang, Deontay Wilder and Martin Bakole in his last three.
He looked on course to be adding another win to his ledger after a solid 11 rounds against Wardley that had him up on all three cards. The Ipswich man did as he has often done before, though, and pulled out a late stoppage to secure victory.
He is now the mandatory for a shot at two-time undisputed ruler Usyk’s WBO belt and said that was the fight he wanted next.
Speaking to The Sun Sport, however, ‘Del Boy’ suggested the best thing to do would be do it all again with Parker in light of the slightly controversial stoppage, which some thought was a little early.
“The rematch I want. I want the rematch, him and Joseph Parker.”
He added that in that case, he thinks Usyk might vacate his WBO belt and allow the pair to fight for it.
“You have to understand, the rematch is happening. And you know what Usyk will do? He’ll drop the belt.”
It could be that Usyk has his eyes on a third fight with Tyson Fury, after the ‘Gypsy King’ recently said that’s what he wants next year if he returns to the ring, having retired back in January following back-to-back defeats to the Ukrainian.
