Despite his rapid rise to the top, Derek Chisora thinks there is one man who is too good for Fabio Wardley right now.
Wardley had a limited amateur background, competing in just a few white collar events before turning over and becoming a professional.
He made solid in roads early on and eventually became British and Commonwealth champion with a victory over David Adeleye, a hard fought draw with Frazer Clarke and then an impressively quick KO in the rematch.
After that, he also knocked out Justis Huni late on despite losing well behind on the cards, and most recently, he stopped Joseph Parker in the 11th round of their fight to become the WBO mandatory to Oleksandr Usyk.
Fellow heavyweight contender Chisora has sent a warning to Wardley though, as speaking to The Sun Sport, ‘Del Boy’ backed Usyk to see the Brit off inside the first few rounds if they are to fight.
“Usyk will have him out of there in less than six rounds. Because Usyk will make him work when he doesn’t want to work. Usyk is a beast. He has to be much fitter than he is right now. There’s no boxing skills with Usyk, you have to be fit.
“You have to stay with him. He’s making you move, making you work, making you think, zapping your energy. One minute he’s here, next minute he’s there.”
Usyk is boxing’s only two-time undisputed heavyweight champion and if he is to maintain that status, he must defend his WBO strap against Wardley sooner rather than later, though other options include a trilogy fight with Tyson Fury.
