Chris Eubank Sr has reiterated his belief that his son will not be fighting Conor Benn this weekend.

Eubank had a similar view last time out when the pair of British rivals were set to face each other back in October 2022. Although the former super-middleweight champion of the world never specified why, he maintained throughout the build-up that the contest should not and would not happen.

It transpired that he was right when it was revealed during fight week that Benn had failed a doping test, and the whole event was pulled. The 28-year-old has spent much of his time since then protesting his innocence and had a provisional suspension in the UK lifted late last year. Attention quickly turned to rescheduling the fight with Eubank Jr.

Speaking to Sun Sport, Eubank Sr expressed confidence again that the fight will not go ahead, claiming it breaks the rules surrounding weight classes.

“I know [it won’t happen]. I don’t think. I don’t believe. I know. I know exactly what’s going to happen. When I say this fight’s not going to happen, it’s not cause of me, it’s cause the rules are set, the rules are in place. I’m steadfast by the rules. That’s why the fight won’t happen. It’s not meant to happen because the weights are wrong.”

It takes place – much to his father’s dismay – at the middleweight limit of 160 pounds, with Eubank facing a 10 pound rehydration clause on the morning of the fight and Benn coming up two divisions from his more natural 147.

Despite these comments, the bout is still very much on and plenty in the boxing world are making their predictions, with some picking the experience of Eubank, and others going for the youth and perceived power and aggression of Benn.
