Chris Eubank Jr has been looking back over his fight with Conor Benn.

These two generational rivals put on a fantastic show back in April, more than two years after they were originally scheduled to fight in October 2022.

Eubank Jr was fined for missing the weight limit, and that manifested in the fight as he made a slow start, with Benn coming out of the blocks swinging big punches with real intent.

Eventually, Eubank Jr found his footing and began to control the contest with smart shots while using his weight to his own advantage. In the end, he ran out as a unanimous points winner, and since then, Benn has been keen to secure a rematch.

Those negotiations rumble on, but in the aftermath of the fight, Eubank spoke of his opponent’s Benn’s power, saying it ‘surprised him’ in the ring.

“Everything surprised me. I didn’t know he had what he had in him. I really didn’t.

I thought I would break him early. I underestimated him. I didn’t train for a fight like that. I didn’t know he had that in him, he’s never had that in him.

I’m not going to lie, I didn’t expect he’d be the guy to do that. The fact our fathers did what they did all those years ago, it brings out a different soul and a different spirit, that’s what we both showed here tonight. I pushed through.

There’s a lot of things that have been going on in my life that I’m not going to get in my life, I’m happy to have this man [my dad] back with me. Onwards and upwards. It was one of those things that was special. He needed to be here. All of this is because of what he did. We did it again.”

Eubank Jr’s father is much less keen on seeing the pair do it again. He maintains that the weight difference between the two men is too large to be bridged safely.
