After close to a year away from the ring, Chris Eubank Jr has signed a new promotional deal ahead of his return to action.
News emerged this week that the 34-year-old signed with BOXXER and hopes to be able to tempt Saul ‘Canelo‘ Alvarez into an all-action super middleweight showdown.
Eubank Jr has long mentioned some of the biggest names in the sport but, despite solid wins against James DeGale and a Liam Smith rematch having been stopped the first time around, he is yet to win a major world title.
He has been defeated by Billy Joe Saunders and George Groves as well as Smith, and has never truly settled with a coach having worked alone, with his father, Roy Jones Jr and Brian ‘BoMac’ McIntyre in recent times.
As well as a fight with Canelo – who right now is also being rumoured to defend his undisputed status against unbeaten Puerto Rican contender Edgar Berlanga – Eubank has three other names in his sights.
According to Dan Rafael’s Fight Freaks Unite, one of them is British rival Conor Benn, who he was scheduled to fight in October 2022. That was canned late in the day when Benn failed drug tests and is yet to regain a British license to fight.
Another on the list is a rematch with Saunders, who beat Eubank back in 2014 for the European, British and Commonwealth middleweight titles, though he has been out of the ring since losing to ‘Canelo’ in 2021.
Finally, Eubank wants pound-for-pound superstar Terence Crawford, who himself is chasing a Canelo fight but will make a debut at super-welterweight in the meantime.
