Chris Eubank Jr. and Conor Benn are set to face off next month after two years of bad blood.
The pair’s first scheduled fight was canned late in the day due to Benn failing two doping tests. When his provisional suspension was lifted at the end of last year, the teams set about rescheduling.
The fight now takes place at middleweight, seeing Benn come up two divisions from his most natural fighting weight to meet the bigger and more experience Eubank. Neither man will budge on how the fight plays out, both supremely confident of victory.
In an interview with Piers Morgan, Eubank was asked if he would retire on a defeat.
“Yes. There is a point in every fighter’s life that they will reach when they can’t go any further. If I can’t beat Conor Benn now, then I’ve reached my ceiling. Which is why this fight is so deathly important to me. Because I don’t want to retire. I don’t want to give up. I don’t want to sail off into the sunset. I still have things to achieve.”
Questions will then be asked about the reported rematch clause and whether or not that, for Eubank, depends on the manner of defeat.
As for Benn, who was sitting across the table from his rival separated by two security guards, he said that a loss does on April 26 does not spell the end for him.
“I’m 28. He’s done what he’s had to do in his career. He’s finished. No [I wouldn’t retire if I lost], of course not. Not that I plan on losing the fight, not that I think I will lose the fight. The reality is you can lose fights. I will lost fights in my career. Not to this man.”
The pair face off at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium next month.
