One of Chris Eubank Jr.‘s sparring partners has given some insight into his power ahead of his fight with Conor Benn.
There are just hours to go until these two bitter rivals finally settle their differences in the ring at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, London. It has been a long time coming, with plenty of beef in the build-up, not least when Eubank smashed an egg on Benn’s face at the first press conference earlier in the year. The antics are now over, and Benn gets a chance to get a shot back.
Many believe Eubank’s natural size will have the most bearing on this fight and leaves Benn up against it, especially as he is also a less experienced fighter.
One man with some extra insight is Michael Likalu, a fighter from the Democratic Republic of Congo who has seven wins and three losses on his record and has been Eubank’s main sparring partner.
Speaking to Seconds Out, Likalu said Junior – who has 25 KOs from 34 wins – knows how to land effective shots which lead to ‘devastating’ consequences.
“I mean anyone with those 10oz, 8oz gloves on, it doesn’t matter if you’re a flyweight, if you get punched on the chin, it’s a punch. He’s got good timing, when he’s got good timing and landing those on you it’s devastating. He’s got some power behind it.”
Benn has won 14 of his 23 fights by KO, so he has also shown himself to have power, but not yet against men who are two weights bigger than him.
