Around 27 months on from their original fight date, it has been announced that Chris Eubank Jr and Conor Benn will finally meet in the ring.
The two Brits were originally set to continue a rivalry started by their fathers back in the nineties in October of 2022, but news of a failed Voluntary Anti-Doping Test on Benn’s part saw the entire card pulled just days out.
Eubank would enter back-to-back fights against Liam Smith, losing by stoppage but scoring his own early finish in the return bout, whilst Benn protested his innocence and fought twice stateside. Late last year, the 28-year-old contender had his suspension lifted in the UK and immediately entered talks to reschedule the fight, now complete with genuine bad blood.
The teams – Matchroom for Benn and BOXXER for Eubank – initially butted heads on the purse split before reaching an agreement and proceeding to the finer details.
Despite Eubank – who beat Kamil Szeremeta by TKO in October of last year – just yesterday publicly sharing his distaste at a rehydration restriction for the middleweight bout, Turki Alalshikh has taken to X to announce that the deal is done.
The new owner of the Ring Magazine revealed that the fight will top the bill of his new venture’s first event, in collaboration with an upcoming video game, Fatal Fury.
Alalshikh also also that the fight will take place this April – reported by ESPN to be the 26 – in London, with a ‘tough undercard’ and a targeted pay-per-view price of £19.99
“Eubank Jr vs Benn done in April, London, by the name of (Fatal Fury City of the Wolves). Soon I will announce the day and the location, it will be The Ring’s first card in collaboration with the video game and SNK, and I will push to make PPV price 19.99 GBP for the fans, with tough undercard… Let’s get boxing great again and wait for huge announcement soon.”
An official announcement and press conference is expected in the coming weeks.
