Chris Eubank Sr is confident that his son Chris Jr will not fight Conor Benn later this month as planned.
Eubank Sr had the same reservations about this fight the first time it was due to happen back in October 2022. He was concerned then about the significant weight loss his son had to undergo – a catchweight of 157 lbs – in order to make it happen. As it transpired, his prediction was right and the contest was pulled – not because of the weight but a failed doping test on Benn’s part.
The 28-year-old then spent the best part of three years attempting to clear his name, fighting twice overseas until a provisional suspension in the UK was lifted late last year
With the fight now rescheduled, Benn will be coming up two weights, from 147 to 160, to meet the bigger and more experienced man in Eubank, who will have to meet a rehydration clause of not weighing in more than 170 on the morning of the fight.
Speaking on his own YouTube channel, Senior to again is of the mind that the fight will not happen because of the difference in size between the two men.
“Heavyweights fight heavyweights, cruiserweights fight cruiserweights, middleweights fight middleweights, welterweights fight welterweights.
“If these rules are flouted by the promoters they have to have their licences revoked. That is why Conor Benn versus Jr will not happen.”
Though the British boxing icon remains adamant, it is full steam ahead for the promotion on April 26 at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
