Former super-middleweight world champion Chris Eubank Sr has weighed in on the upcoming mega-fight between Terence Crawford and Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez.

The modern pound-for-pound greats are pencilled in to face each other in September of this year in what has been described as the biggest fight in boxing right now.

‘Bud’ Crawford is bidding to become a five-division world champion against the Mexican star, but faces what is unquestionably the toughest test of his exceptional professional career.

Before he can turn his attention to Crawford, Canelo must first come through a bout against reigning IBF super-middleweight champion William Scull, who he faces on May 3 in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. Victory over Scull will see the Mexican icon claim the undisputed championship at 168lbs for the second time in his career.

Speaking on his own Youtube channel, Call Chris Eubank, the British boxing legend gave an honest view on Crawford stepping up two weight classes to face Canelo and just like his son’s fight against Conor Benn, Eubank Sr says it’s against the rules and should not be allowed to go ahead.

“Crawford, a brilliant, talented, fabulous, extraordinary champion of the old school. Old school has to become new school, when he starts going up in weight to fight a Canelo, it’s against the rules. If I drive 100 miles an hour in London, it’s against the rules. As much as we may want to see a Canelo against a Crawford, the weights are wrong and so it cannot happen.”

An official announcement for the intriguing showdown between ‘Bud’ and Canelo is likely to take place shortly after the Mexican faces William Scull next month, so long as he comes through this without any hitches.
