Chris Eubank Sr has never been too keen on the idea of his son Chris Eubank Jr fighting Conor Benn.

It was revealed earlier this month that Benn and Eubank will finally be coming to blows at 160lbs on April 26 at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

It is almost two and a half years since they were first scheduled to fight in October 2022 – at a catchweight of 157lbs – but a failed drug test on Benn’s behalf put paid to that. The time since has seen the 28-year-old fighting to prove his innocence, and with him being cleared to fight at the end of last year the bout was quickly made.

Even before the first fight was cancelled, former super middleweight world champion Eubank Sr made his feelings clear given the amount of weight his son had to lose to make the contracted limit to compete against the naturally much smaller man.

Speaking on his Call Chris Eubank YouTube channel, he has once again expressed concerns about the weight with a reported second weigh-in on fight day where his son will not be allowed to rehydrate more than 10lbs.

When asked if he will be in his son’s corner, Eubank made it clear he won’t be as the fight ‘will not happen’.

“My answer is no, the fight will not happen. Not because of anything other than it breaks the rules. Rules is what we abide by. If we don’t abide by the rules then we are being reckless. We’re being reckless with what? With the lives of these fighters. Not just Conor Benn and Christopher Livingstone Eubank Jr, but with the lives of all participants of combat sports. Do not be distracted by re-hydration clauses.”

Eubank Jr’s promoter, Ben Shalom, has since reaffirmed that everything is signed and the fight will take place as scheduled. He hopes Eubank Sr will be involved.
