Chris Eubank Sr has let his new feelings be known on the re-arranged showdown between Conor Benn and Chris Eubank Jr.
Benn and Eubank Jr are finally set to do battle at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in April, two-and-a-half years after they were initially due to meet in October 2022.
Their initial meeting was cancelled on fight week and with just a few days to go until the bout after Benn had failed a drugs test, resulting in a several year stand-off with UKAD and the BBBofC.
One man who was firmly against the fight from the beginning was Eubank Jr’s father Chris Sr, who famously stated that they felt those involved in the contest were trying to ‘murder his boy’ by making him compete at a catchweight of 157lbs.
The re-arranged clash is due to be at Eubank’s natural weight of 160lbs, with Benn stepping up two weight divisions from welterweight, but Chris Sr has revealed on his YouTube channel why he thinks the fight still won’t go ahead.
“No, the fight will not happen. Not because of anything other than it breaks the rules. Rules are what we abide by. If we don’t abide by the rules then we are being reckless. Being reckless with what? With the lives of these fighters. Not just of Conor and Chris Jr, but the lives of all participants of combat sports.”
While Eubank Sr may doubt it will take place, that hasn’t stopped other figures from the boxing world offering their prediction on the bout, with former unified super-middleweight world champion Carl Froch sharing his thoughts.
