Chris Eubank Sr Delivers Honest Verdict On Nigel Benn’s Power As Sons Promise Knock Outs

Chris Eubank[tag] Sr and [tag]Nigel Benn shared the ring twice during their legendary careers.

These two Brits are some of the most famous and fierce men to have competed, and they did so from the late 1980s to the 1990s, when they were known and loved for their rivalry in the middleweight division.

Benn was feared for his explosive power and aggressive fighting style and became a two-weight world champion, first picking up the WBO middleweight title and later the WBC super-middleweight strap.

Eubank Sr was more unorthodox and his style was often characterised by his upright stance, solid chin and supreme confidence. He too was a two-weight world champion who won the WBO middleweight belt and later the WBO super-middleweight title.

The pair fought twice, firstly in 1990 when Eubank won by ninth round stoppage, and then in 1993 they went at it again and it ended in a draw.

Speaking about the fights, Eubank Sr compared Benn’s more lasting punching power to that of the other men he faced and claimed he was the hardest hitter he ever stepped in the ring with.

“The concussion, the impact of the shots, starts dissipating immediately. With Nigel it stayed with you for like a second and a half.

In that second and a half, within a split second, he’d be following up with another shot, and each of the shots were like dynamite, which is why he had something like 25 knockouts inside two rounds. So he had that dynamite.”

The family rivalry continues on April 26th when the sons Chris Eubank Jr and Conor Benn aim to settle their score after many years of build-up.

Eubank has vowed to ‘punish’ Benn inside the ropes, but the younger man has promised a knockout inside four rounds.
