Chris Eubank Sr’s feud with his son goes on as the fight with Conor Benn approaches.
Jr has had a tumultuous relationship with his father over recent years. He was there in his corner for many fights early on, but then they grew apart with many onlookers suggesting Jr needed to come out from under his father’s shadow.
Ahead of this generational rivalry being renewed on April 26 at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, Sr has again stated he will not be with his son.
He has admitted shame at Jr’s antics in the build-up, including smashing an egg in Benn’s face in reference to the fact that he used eggs as an excuse for failing a drug test ahead of their first proposed fight back in October 2022.
Speaking to Seconds Out, Sr summed up his reaction to the press conference stunt by saying ‘you’re a disgrace’.
“Jr, you’re smashing an egg against this guy’s face. I didn’t teach you that. Who taught you that? Did [your mother] teach you that? Who taught you that? That’s disgraceful.
I’m going to stand in your corner? You must be mad. I’d never be in your corner, you’re a disgrace, you’re smashing an egg in someone’s face, then you’re trying to justify that. There’s nothing noble about that.”
Only time will tell how much this ongoing issue affects Jr. He goes into the fight as the favourite given that he is the more experienced fighter and also the naturally bigger man, with the contest being made at 160 lbs, two divisions above Benn’s usual weight class.
