Chris Eubank Sr. has been speaking about the future of his son’s boxing career.
The pair are newly reunited, having fallen out over disagreements including the safety of Eubank Jr’s fight with generational rival Conor Benn. Initially, Senior was convinced his son should cancel the bout due to the dangers of the weight difference between the two, however, he appeared at ringside when they finally came to blows back in April.
Benn, the smaller man, started well and threw plenty of aggressive shots, but Eubank weathered the storm and, bolstered by his natural advantages, finished strong. The 35-year-old won a unanimous decision on all three judges’ score cards but had to spend the days immediately after the fight in the hospital recovering.
Speaking on his own YouTube channel, Eubank Sr suggested that walking away from the sport would be the best thing his son could do.
“I must remember what happened. I saw my son in a touch or go situation. Life or death. He doesn’t respect it, because he’s a warrior, and a warrior goes out on his shield, which he proved.
“He’s not going to listen to the rules. If he can evade the rules, if he can somehow sidestep the rules, he will, because he’s a warrior. It would be an extraordinary gift for him if he’s wise enough to make the decision to walk off in the sunset.”
