Chris Eubank Sr Names ‘The Only Way’ His Son Can Beat Canelo: “That’s A Done Deal”

Not for the first time, Chris Eubank Jr is being linked to a fight with Mexican elite Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez.

Eubank Jr has had a rather stop-start career since turning pro. Back in his earliest days in the ring, he had a big night against Billy Joe Saunders in 2014 which ended in a narrow points loss after he was slow to get going in the fight.

Despite plenty of attributes including great speed, fitness and a strong mental game he has never won a world title.

His best wins have been against James DeGale and a knockout of Liam Smith last year just a few months after having been knocked out himself for the first time in his career.

He hasn’t fought since then and has been strongly linked with current undisputed super middleweight champion and pound-for-pound contender ‘Canelo’ for a fight this September.

Speaking to talkSPORT Boxing, Chris Eubank Snr said the fight is the only way his son regains credibility.

“Canelo is the only person he is going to be able to fight now to redeem some respect from the fighting public. I know how you win respect, it’s not beating Liam Smith who beat you. Jr, this is my view, your saving grace is going to be Canelo.”

He also insisted Jr’s time down at middleweight is done despite still often being linked to a fight with generation rival Conor Benn down in that division.

You’re never going to get back down to 160, I won’t allow that to happen. When you’re walking around at 13 stone 5 you’re not going to get down. You’re a 168 fighter.

Finally, he claimed the only way his son would win was with him in his corner.

“Canelo is your way out, your way to win respect, you can’t beat him, the only way you can beat him is if daddy is next to you, that’s it, period. Only That. That’s a done deal.”

Benn is one man who hopes the fight happens so that he can see Canelo ‘spank’ his rival .
