Chris Eubank Jr and Conor Benn are just hours away from their highly anticipated grudge match.
The domestic rivals are set to lock horns this evening at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in London, in what has been described by many as one of the biggest fights in the history of British boxing.
It comes after their first bout, which was due to take place in October 2022, had to be cancelled after Benn tested positive for a banned substance on two occasions in the build up. ‘The Destroyer’ subsequently relinquished his BBBofC license, although it appears that it has now been reinstated.
One man who has been more than vocal about the domestic showdown is Chris Eubank Sr, who has expressed his concerns about his son going ahead with the bout on more than one occasion.
In an interview with Carl Froch, Eubank Sr was asked whether he is more concerned about his son having to make the 160lb limit, or for Benn who is making the jump up from welterweight.
“The obvious answer is my son, because I know what it is at 35. I retired at 32-years-old, he’s 35, I couldn’t do anymore after 32. At 35 he’s still getting down to 160. So my concern is for my son but because I’m a dad, it means I’ve gotta be a dad also to Conor. Conor is destroying his career or it’s Matchroom that’s destroying his career because once you go up to 160, coming back down to 147, it doesn’t work.”
Sr will feel his words of concern have been justified after his son missed weight by 0.05lbs at the second attempt and posted some distressing clips of his weight cut on social media. Benn weighed in at 156.4lbs, surprisingly far under the limit.

Jr could not weigh more than 170lbs for the 10lbs rehydration clause weigh in this morning and made that by 0.5lbs so the fight is official for this evening.
